A live performance of Wise Children, Bristol Old Vic and Plush Theatre Production’s acclaimed Romantics Anonymous will be digitally broadcast at theatres across the UK this September.

Romantics Anonymous will be performed live at the Bristol Old Vic, with performances broadcast live at 34 theatres from 22nd – 26th September 2020.

The Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse will join eight other theatres in the North West for the performance on Tuesday 22nd September 2020.

Romantics Anonymous follows Angelique, a gifted chocolate maker who faints whenever anyone looks at her. Yet when she goes to work for Jean Rene, the owner of a failing chocolate factory, a love affair unfolds.

It is a beautiful love story about breaking the mould and finding the courage to be happy.

The production will be directed by former Kneehigh Theatre Company artistic director Emma Rice, who launched Wise Children in 2018. The company has since created productions including an adaptation of Enid Blyton’s Malory Towers.

Emma Rice said:

“I have devoted my life to the live experience and the collective imagination – things that have proved impossible over the last few months. Whilst nothing will be able to replace a night at the theatre, this live broadcast will be as close to that delicious experience as we can possibly make it!

We are taking the utmost care to protect all of our team and, for one week only, we can all experience a live performance again, get lost in a wonderful love story and remember what it was to be socially intimate”.

Tickets for the live broadcast of Romantics Anonymous on Tuesday 22nd September 2020 at the Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse are on sale now.
